Supporting You Through the UCare Medicare Advantage Transition

Many of you may have seen the news that UCare will discontinue its Medicare Advantage plans after 2025. This change will affect nearly 158,000 Minnesotans. Understandably, this may raise questions and concerns about your healthcare coverage going forward.

First, please know: you will not lose coverage immediately. Your current UCare Medicare Advantage plan will remain in place through December 31, 2025. During the 2026 Annual Enrollment Period, you’ll have the opportunity to explore and choose a new plan that fits your needs.

As your advisor, my priority is to make this transition as smooth and stress-free as possible. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Personalized guidance: I’ll help you review all of your options, including Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement, and Prescription Drug Plans.

  • Clear explanations: I’ll walk you through the differences so you feel confident in your decision.

  • Ongoing support: I’ll be here to answer questions, check plan details, and make sure you’re comfortable with your new coverage.

Change like this can feel unsettling, but it’s also an opportunity to reassess your healthcare needs and find coverage that may serve you even better.

If you have questions, or simply want to talk through what this news means for you, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Together, we’ll find the right solution to keep you protected and supported.

DO NOT - Go Direct To The Insurance Company

When you contact an insurance company directly, they can only provide information about their own plans and can't suggest if another insurer's plan might be a better fit for you. This could result in you paying more or getting less coverage than you need. Additionally, you won't have an agent to guide you or assist you when you need help. Keep in mind that working with an agent doesn't cost you anything extra. If you go directly through the insurance company, they keep the commission that would normally go to an independent agent.

DO NOT - Call the (800) Phone Numbers on TV Commercials

The TV commercials you see are often from national companies that aren't familiar with the specific healthcare systems here in Minnesota and the surrounding areas. They don’t have a vested interest in your long-term satisfaction or in being your personal advocate. The agents they employ aren’t the same people you'll bump into at the grocery store or at your grandchild's sporting events—they don’t have a local presence or a personal stake in your well-being.

DO NOT - Go It Alone

You could try to navigate the process online on your own, but keep in mind that there are many details that might be confusing or hard to understand. Working with an agent costs you nothing extra—they're paid by the insurance companies to help you choose the best plan for your needs. Having an agent can save you time and ensure you make an informed decision.

Work With An Independent Agent

Here’s a breakdown of why working with an agent can be a more beneficial option:

  1. Expert Guidance: Independent agents are not tied to any one insurer, meaning they can objectively compare policies from different companies and recommend the best option for your unique needs, preferences, and budget. Insurance companies, on the other hand, are only going to tell you about their own products, which might not necessarily be the best fit.
  2. Cost-Free Service: It’s important to note that working with an independent agent doesn’t cost you anything extra. Insurance companies pay agents a commission for the business they bring in, so you get personalized service without any additional charges.
  3. Ongoing Support: When you buy insurance directly from a company, you’re typically left to manage everything on your own. Independent agents, however, can assist with claims, provide ongoing support, and help you make adjustments to your policy as your needs change over time.
  4. Unbiased Recommendations: Since independent agents represent multiple insurers, they can offer an unbiased perspective on which plan might offer the most value for your situation. Going directly through an insurer means you may not get the full picture of all available options.
  5. More Time to Focus on What Matters: Rather than spending hours researching and comparing plans, an independent agent can save you time by narrowing down the best choices for you. They can also help explain complex terms and coverages, ensuring you make an informed decision.

In short, working with an independent agent can help you avoid spending more than necessary or getting less coverage than you need, all while providing a level of support and expertise that you simply won’t get when dealing directly with an insurer. Plus, there’s no added cost to you for these services.
